¡Hola España! How to Apply for the Digital Nomad Visa in Spain
Hola amigos! Are you thinking of packing up your bags and moving to Spain? From the sunny beaches to the bustling cities, Spain has a lot to offer. And the best part? It's incredibly affordable! Spain's relatively low cost of living makes it an ideal destination for digital nomad in comparison to other European nations.
As part of their brand-new Startup Act, Spain just launched its Digital Nomad Visa in January 2023. It is a game-changer for remote workers and freelancers who want to live and work in sunny Spain for up to 12 months (and renewable for up to five years!). This group of measures is intended to encourage entrepreneurship and foreign investment.
Here's what you need to know:
The visa allows non-EU/EEA remote workers and freelancers to live and work in Spain for up to 12 months, renewable for up to five years.
Applicants must prove a minimum income of €2,334 per month to apply, with higher income brackets for those accompanied by a partner or children.
The minimum income requirement for the Digital Nomad Visa varies based on family size. The income bracket increases by 75% for the first accompanying person and 25% for each additional person. For a family of 2, the minimum income is €4,085 per month; for a family of 3, it is €4,668 per month, and for a family of 4, it is €5,250 per month.
Digital nomad must have a stable contract, and permission from their company to work in Spain, and the company must have been in business for at least one year.
Up to 20% of a freelancer’s income can come from Spanish clients.
Successful applicants can apply for a Spanish residency permit to travel around the European Union.
Visa holders can pay a reduced tax rate of 15% on income up to €600,000 per year.
Digital nomad and their accompanying family members must have comprehensive health insurance throughout their stay in Spain.
Applicants must provide proof of a clean criminal record from all countries they have resided in for the past 5 years, with the appropriate documentation and translation in Spanish.
Proof of Remote Worker Status
Prove that you can work remotely in Spain via an internet connection.
Demonstrate specific expertise in your field, such as a university degree, professional certificate, or proof of three years of work experience.
Show that your work is stable and well-established, including being employed in the job for at least three months.
Remote workers must have a contract for the duration of their proposed stay in Spain, while freelancers can show long-term contracts as evidence of their stability.

Freelancers and self-employed individuals can work for Spanish clients as long as it does not make up more than 20% of their overall income, which is unlike many other Digital Nomad Visas.
