Digital Nomad's journey to the Land of the Rising Sun!
Just months after Tokyo claimed the top spot on Nomad List's list of digital nomad hotspots in 2023, Japan is rolling out a new visa tailor-made for remote workers. It's no surprise, really, given the surge in remote-friendly opportunities worldwide, that adventurous souls are seizing the chance to live and work in new corners of the globe.
If you've ever dreamed of immersing yourself in Japan's vibrant cities or scaling its majestic mountains, your timing couldn't be better. This March, Japan will officially introduce its digital nomad visa, inviting remote workers from 49 countries (yes, including the United States) to experience the Land of the Rising Sun for up to six months. And the best part? You can even reapply for another stint after spending six months outside Japan.
According to reports from the Japan Times, applicants will need to demonstrate an annual income of at least 10 million Japanese Yen (approximately USD 68,000) and hold private health coverage. Freelancers and self-employed individuals are welcome to apply too, as long as they can show they're employed by a company based outside Japan. Plus, if you're bringing along family, spouses and children are eligible to join you on this exciting adventure.
